A healthy endowment is crucial to the School’s long-term financial health. The funds support financial aid, faculty compensation and retention, and student programming and prevent us from relying solely on tuition income. Since the Together We Shine campaign began in 2015, we’ve prioritized the endowment. Additional investment and prudent management have grown the market value to nearly $92.4 million* — an increase of more than 68%. While this is great progress we must place these numbers in context. Our annual spend rate is limited to 4.5 percent. With an enrollment of 1,144 students, this translates to approximately $2,500 in available funding per student each year. This figure is undersized relative to many of our peers.

To better support the School’s programs, and make the Sidwell experience more accessible, the School continues to make strengthening the endowment a priority.

A larger endowment allows Sidwell Friends to support current programming, reduce reliance on tuition as the primary source of revenue, and enhance the School’s ability to meet the opportunities of the future.”
